Pricing guide

What a custom wall mural really costs, from the people who print them

Two walls of the same size can carry very different jobs: different materials, different prep, different installs. We print murals in our own Montreal plant and install across the Montreal area, so we can explain exactly what moves a mural quote up or down, and what to send us for a real number within one business day.

What moves the price

1.Wall size: square footage is the base

A mural is produced by the square foot of printed material, so the wall's width times height is the starting point of every quote. A stairwell or a full lobby wall simply uses more material and more press time than a powder room. Doors and windows reduce it a little, but panels usually print past openings for a clean trim, so don't expect an opening to erase its full area from the price.

2.Material: vinyl, textured, or removable

Material moves both the price and the lifespan. Smooth matte non-woven wallpaper, textured finishes, removable peel-and-stick, and commercial-grade vinyl each carry a different cost per square foot and do a different job: a rented office needs clean removal, a gym corridor needs scrubbable durability. The most expensive material is not automatically the right one; the right one is matched to the wall and the wear it will take.

3.Wall condition and prep

A mural shows what's underneath it. A smooth, properly cured painted surface installs quickly; flaking paint, heavy texture, patched drywall, or bare concrete needs prep before anything goes up, and that prep is real labour on the invoice. Good photos of the wall up front let us price the prep honestly instead of surprising you on install day.

4.Design work: ready art or design help

A print-ready file at wall-scale resolution adds nothing to the price. A photo that needs rescue and colour work, licensed imagery we source for you, or original artwork designed to your brand each adds design hours. We check resolution at full size before you commit, because the most expensive design mistake is a file that looked fine on a phone and pixelates across eight feet of wall.

5.Installation complexity

A straight wall at floor level is a quick, clean install. Height, obstacles (outlets, vents, trim, inside corners), and difficult access all add install hours, and a two-storey atrium is a different job than an office feature wall. After-hours or overnight installs, common for restaurants and stores that can't close, cost more than the same work done during the day.

6.One wall or a multi-location program

The design, colour work, and file prep for a branded environment happen once, whether it goes on one wall or thirty. Rolling the same program across locations spreads that one-time work and lets the printing run together, so the per-location cost drops. It also keeps the brand colour-matched everywhere, which one-off orders from different vendors can't guarantee.

7.Who you buy from

An online mural shop prints and ships, and you're on your own for everything else. A decorator or sign broker subcontracts the print and the install and marks both up. Buying from the printer that also installs removes the markup layer, and it removes the finger-pointing when a seam needs a fix: one team owns the wall from file to final trim.

How to pay less, honestly

Measure well and send photos up front

Accurate wall dimensions and a few straight-on photos are the cheapest insurance in this business. They let us quote the material and the prep correctly the first time, and they prevent the expensive stuff: reprints, surprise prep charges, and a second site visit.

Match the material to the wear, not the price tag

Paying for commercial-grade vinyl in a low-traffic bedroom is wasted money; putting a delicate residential paper in a busy corridor means paying twice. Tell us the room and the traffic, and we'll spec the least expensive material that will still look right years in.

Schedule the install during business hours where possible

After-hours and overnight installs cost more. If the wall is in a space that can work around a daytime install, a lobby corner, a meeting room, a wall that can be cordoned for a few hours, you keep the labour at its regular rate.

One partner for print and install

Splitting the job between a print vendor and an installer stacks two margins and leaves a gap where problems live. One partner prices the whole wall as one job, and if anything needs a touch-up, there's no debate about whose fault it is.

The bottom line

Custom wall mural pricing comes down to wall size, material, wall condition, design work, install complexity, and whether it's one wall or a program of locations. Buying print and installation from one manufacturer like Accent Mural in Montreal removes the markup layers, and a wall measurement with photos gets you a real, itemized price within one business day.

For an accurate quote in one business day

Include these in your request and we'll come back with a real number, not a vague range.

  • Wall width and height, measured at the widest and tallest points
  • Two or three photos: one straight-on, plus any corners, outlets, vents, or trim the mural must work around
  • The wall surface and its condition (painted drywall, texture, concrete, fresh or aging paint)
  • Your artwork status: print-ready file, a photo to adapt, or design help needed, plus brand colours if any
  • Install context and deadline: ceiling height, access, available hours, and whether it's one wall or several locations

Frequently asked questions

How much does a custom wall mural cost?
The base is the wall's square footage, then the material, the wall's condition, any design work, and the install move the number from there, which is why honest printers quote per wall. What we can promise: send your wall dimensions and photos and you get a real manufacturer-direct price within one business day.
Can I install it myself to save on the cost?
For many straightforward walls, yes: we ship labelled, sequenced panels with a clear step-by-step guide, and a careful amateur gets a clean result. For tall walls, tricky surfaces, or high-stakes commercial spaces, professional install is the safe call, and we offer it across the Montreal area.
Which material should I choose?
The one matched to the wall and the wear, not the most expensive one. Renters and changing spaces want removable peel-and-stick; premium interiors suit matte or textured non-woven wallpaper; high-traffic commercial walls need commercial-grade vinyl. Tell us the room and we'll spec it honestly.
What if I don't have artwork?
That's a solvable line on the quote, not a dealbreaker. We adapt photos you already have, source licensed imagery, or create original artwork sized for your wall, with the licensing handled so the mural is legally yours to display.
Can US businesses order murals in US dollars?
Yes. We price in Canadian dollars, which a favourable exchange rate makes attractive for a US budget, and we accept payment in USD. Printed panels ship with the DIY install kit, our Montreal plant is about an hour from the US border, and many products cross duty-free or at low duty under CUSMA.
